Why Knockfarrell Charitable Trust?

As we are a small family run business here at The Rings we don’t have the resources to organise and run a charity. The Trustees of Knockfarrell Charitable Trust kindly offered us their help. They facilitate holidays for families with disabled children to have a much needed break, which works well with our ethos and vision. Our funds are kept separate from the other charitable projects which Knockfarrell CT supports. Any donations received for “Friends of the Rings” will go directly to the charitable purchases, which the Rings provides; such as equipment and holiday funds like “Dorothy’s Breaks”.

What are Dorothy’s breaks?

We had a fantastic builder, Dougie, whose sister had spina bifida. We were only 11 days into the build when we heard the devastating news that Dorothy, Dougie’s wife, only had 3-4 weeks to live… she died 3.5 weeks later with Dougie tasked to “Finish Building The Rings”.

My hubby’s pension pot, all of my inheritance and a hefty mortgage were needed to build The Rings. We couldn’t give any more, but people from near and far were hearing about The Rings and offering to help. We are so grateful for Knockfarrel Charitable Trust and their support in helping us with the administration for the funds we raise.

We can’t thank our supporters enough, with their help, and in memory of Dorothy, we have “Dorothy’s Break”. This takes the form of gifting or subsidising a break for someone brought to our attention with a particular or urgent need for a break.

BUY Moira’s Book

Moira has written a book about the journey to build The Rings. If you buy a copy direct from us 100% of the sale goes to Friends of The Rings charity.

Due to the length of time it took to get through planning, and with one design which had to be shelved, our budget for special equipment was swallowed up. The sales of the book are enabling us to purchase equipment. So far we have gathered enough to purchase a Profile bed, a shower chair and another seat to assist those with additional needs. Without these special, and often large, pieces of equipment it would be impossible for some of our guests to travel and stay with us.

Non financial support

There are so many ways you can help “Friends of the Rings”. Many people have contributed so much and become a part of our journey in a variety of ways.

We are always pleased to receive donations of scooters, skateboards, rollerblades or other toys for Bissets barn.

Perhaps you have skills which might help us out, for example:

  • Handyman skills – putting up shelves, pictures or similar
  • Bicycle, scooters and go-kart repairs
  • Landscaping or gardening
  • Artistic skills – to help decorate our spaces
  • … or something we haven’t thought of!

Our wishlist

We always use the funds from donations to the Charity to provide Dorothy’s breaks but we also save up for specific items. Here are a few of the special things we would love to be able to buy for The Rings and our amazing guests:

We greatly appreciate any and all support towards our goal of Enabling holidays for All
